2007 Dodge Caliber SRT-4 - Details and Overview
For 2007, Dodge is introducing the Dodge Caliber SRT-4. Like all SRT models, Dodge has taken the base model and bumped up the performance and looks well beyond it's competitors while keeping the price much lower than you'd expect.
The first changes you'll notice from the base version are the aggresive front and rear fascias, large single tip exhaust, and 19" wheels. A lot of car manufacturers would stop here for their "sport" version, but an SRT wouldn't be an SRT without something special under the vented hood.
That "something special" comes in the form a 2.4L turbocharged and intercooled version of the World Engine, developed jointly by Chrysler, Mitsubishi, and Hyundai. The numbers are impressive. 300hp/260tq . Dodge claims under 6 seconds to 60, and there have been rumors that advanced traction control will improve launches greatly when compared to it's older brother, the Neon SRT-4. This should make for mid-high 13 second quarter-miles straight from the showroom.
Of course, a hot engine doesn't do any good if theres nothing good to put that power to the wheels, so the Caliber features a 6 speed manual transmission with a limited slip differential that can handle up to 300lb.-ft. of torque.

The engine and transmission aren't the only performance aspects of the car, though. The exhaust is tuned for "maximum power while meeting federal noise regulations" and comes in at a full 3", though it features a pair of catalytic converters. The brakes use calipers sourced from Chrysler's larger cars( such as the 300, Magnum, and Charger) in the front, and calipers from midsize cars in the rear. The rotors measure in at 340 x 28 mm in front and 302 x 10 mm in the rear. This adds up to a boatload of stopping power.
One thing that the Neon never got quite right was high safety standards. Don't get us wrong,.. the car was safe.. just not exceptionally so. That all changes with the Caliber SRT. It features a bevy of safety features such as anti-lock brakes, advanced multi-stage airbags, "BeltAlert", Panic Brake Assist, crumple zones, electronic stability program(ESP), energy absorbing steering column, enhanced accident response system(after impact, all doors are unlocked, interior lights turned on, and fuel is cut completely, making it easier for emergency personnel to do their jobs), height adjustable seat belts, drivers knee protecting airbag, LATCH child seat system, parking assist with visual and audible alerts to stationary objects, side-curtain airbags, and tire pressure monitoring.

The Dodge Caliber SRT-4 also features a race-inspired interior which includes a boost guage, silver interior trim, heavily bolstered racing style seats, and leather finished shift knob. In the audio department, the Caliber includes an AM/FM radio with multi-disc cd changer control. A factory installed Kicker system is optional and features 13 speakers driven by a 322w amplifier, and a 100w subwoofer. Uconnect bluetooth technology and SIRIUS satelite radio are also available.
